2nd Annual Science Symposium on HIV/AIDS
Date: 28th & 29th August, 2009
Venue: VIGYAN auditorium, CSIR Campus, Tharamani, Chennai

The annual HIV science symposium will bring together leading faculties, experts and scientists who will provide updates on HIV/AIDS research. Distinguished national speakers from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, Christian Medical College and Hospital (CMC), Vellore, International AIDS Vaccine Initiative (IAVI), New Delhi, Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), New Delhi, National AIDS Control Organisation (NACO), New Delhi, National AIDS Research Institute (NARI), Pune, National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS), Bangalore, Tuberculosis Research Centre (TRC), Chennai, Dr. ALM Post Graduate Institute of Basic Medical Sciences (PGIBMS), Chennai and YRG CARE, Chennai will speak on various topics encompassing HIV epidemiology, pathogenesis, host-virus interactions, immune responses to infection, disease progression, opportunistic infections, current treatment strategies, natural history of HIV disease in India, vaccines, sexually transmitted diseases, and co-infections with TB and hepatitis viruses. This will provide a forum for young people to address key scientific issues and gaps in knowledge.This will also form an opportunity to identify priorities for future action. The variety of sessions planned for this symposium is to meet the needs of various participants.

· Post-Graduate students from Medical, Paramedical, Science Colleges/Universities/ResearchInstitutions


The registration for the symposium is open and the registration fee is Rs.750 (Rs.500 for PG students). The registration details and form will be available on our symposium webpage. The completed registration forms should be sent to the symposium secretariat along with the DD for registration fees before the deadline (14th August, 2009 for early registration). This is a limited audience (about 400) symposium and the registration will be done on a first-come, first-served basis. Scholarships will be provided to a limited number of selected PG students with good track records.

Abstract submission

Abstracts of research related to HIV, STDs, TB and viral hepatitis can be submitted and selected abstracts are eligible for poster presentation on the day of symposium.
