The YRG. Centre for AIDS Research & Education (YRG CARE) was formed in 1993 within the Y.R. Gaitonde Medical, Educational and Research Foundation, a public charitable trust. Dr. Suniti Solomon, the Founding Director of the Centre is a retired Professor of Microbiology from the Madras Medical College. In 1986, her laboratory documented the first evidence of HIV in India.
YRG CARE has a stated mission to respond to needs of people who are not receiving care and support or education/information for HIV. YRG CARE currently provides medical and psychosocial care for more than 13,000 persons with HIV disease and conducting several international clinical trials and educational/training programmes. YRG CARE is striving to create a social consensus towards its vision and objectives that people with HIV and AIDS and their families live with dignity, and there are no new HIV infections.
YRG CARE has planned to bring out a "365 Good Friends Calendar" for 2011 and as a good friend, you or your loved one will be recognized ona specific date of your choice. Donations from Good Friends have been used for providing inpatients with nutritious food and support to families living with HIV with antiretroviral treatment.
